Pennsylvania woman arrested for DUI

One woman is in police custody following an alleged drunk driving incident during the early morning of Aug. 13. Pennsylvania police arrested the woman and charged her with DUI after a car accident involving a South East Pennsylvania Transit Authority vehicle. The officer involved suffered injuries in the accident, which may influence further charges if they are filed.

According to the police report, the SEPTA officer was responding to a call for assistance at approximately 3 a.m. when the accident occurred. The unidentified woman, who is believed to have been driving a white SUV at the time, apparently crashed her vehicle into the officer's car. The officer was taken to a hospital and treated for injuries which were thankfully minor.

Police say the woman's blood alcohol level was registered at more than twice the legal limit for Pennsylvania drivers, though it is unclear how they came to this determination. The woman was evaluated for minor injuries and then taken into custody. It is unknown whether she remains in custody at this time or whether she has posted bail. Currently, she faces a drunk driving charge.

When the DUI case goes to court it will be up to Pennsylvania prosecutors to prove the woman was indeed drunk behind the wheel when the accident occurred. In order to do so, they will have to provide proof of the woman's blood alcohol level. It may benefit the defense to investigate how this information was obtained -- if the woman's rights were disregarded during sobriety testing or at any point in the arrest process, it could influence whether the proposed evidence is accepted by the court.
