Pennsylvania man faces assault charges

A bizarre story has been reported in Mohton, according to local news sources. Pennsylvania police say a 23-year-old man is now facing assault and harassment charges after a strange exchange involving, they say, ramen noodles. The accused man is apparently in police custody, and the victim has been released from the hospital.

Details about the case are sparse at this time, but it has been confirmed that the accused man apparently cooked a pot of ramen noodles around 11:30 p.m. the night of June 30. He then asked a friend, aged 20, to eat them. When the friend refused, the man reportedly assaulted him.

According to the report, the younger man was allegedly accosted and struck some 10 to 15 times in the face, with the blows centering on his right eye. Reportedly, he suffered bruising, swelling and a one-inch cut under his eye. He has since been released from the hospital as his wounds are not severe. Criminal charges include harassment and assault against the friend who cooked the noodles.

An assault charge is very serious, even in a situation that does not seem to warrant them. Pennsylvania authorities will be forced to carefully examine the evidence in this case to determine whether the assault took place the way the younger man described. However, if extenuating circumstances become apparent in this case, or if it appears that the older man may have been acting out of self-defense, the nature of the case could change. If so, the charges could be reduced or even dropped.
